Portable hydraulic stone chiseler, works on most stone types - including engineered stone. Capable of up to 3½ inch (8cm) thick laminated stone.
Overview
As we looked around for a well designed portable stone chiseler, all we could find were air powered or manual units. So we tested the best available to us; we found that they could not handle engineered stone, or even some common natural stone types! We also noted that they tended to throw chunks of stone at the operator and those nearby when used on very hard stone. So we set our engineering team to work, and they gave us the PitBull™ Stone Chiseler. But we like options, so we had them go back to the drawing board, and give us a stone shear capable of handling even thicker stone. The PitBull BigDog™ Hydraulic Stone Chiseler has a five+ ton rated hydraulic piston providing more than enough power to shear through the hardest of stones. We have tested it on several types of engineered stone, volcanic stone, granite, even marble!*
With the PitBull Big Dog™ Hydraulic Stone Chiseler's 3 inch wide teeth, you can create a perfect edge by overlapping the bites, or you can turn the machine at an angle to create a ragged "mountainous" look. To help create those perfect straight edges, you can clamp a section of angle aluminum on the slab (perhaps with our powerful suction clamps,) and use the guide pins to keep the PitBull Big Dog™ Stone Chiseler in perfect alignment for every bite.
With the modular jaw system designed for the Big Dog™ Stone Chiseler, your options have really opened up. For softer stones, such as marble and limestone, use the Soft-Stone jaw. This jaw is also capable of handling harder stones, so it provides the perfect general-purpose jaw. Use the 1½ inch jaws for really tough stone, such as 4cm slate and 8cm Absolute Black.
Operating Requirements
100psi (7 BAR) air pressure is required for the maximum 5 ton potential. The pump can operate at a minimum of 40psi (9 BAR), however the PitBull™ Stone Chiseler will only be able to deliver 2 tons of force at that pressure.
Air compressor CFM (size of compressor) is not so important for the PitBull's operation. The PA9 hydraulic pump is capable of operating a range of hydraulic cylinders, including large 100 ton units, however the PitBull™ Stone Chiseler only uses a small bore 5 ton piston. The air supply only needs enough volume to be able to keep the air pressure up at the rate you wish to work. Harder stone will need more tonnage (more psi) to chisel. The more CFM your air compressor puts out, the faster you will be able to cycle any air driven hydraulic pump resulting in faster work up to a limit.

Notes
Scribing the surface of the stone when using this tool is both unnecessary and potentially damaging. If you wish you can scratch the surface of the stone with a diamond point to act as a guide, though angle aluminum is faster and more accurate, but DO NOT MAKE ANY GROOVES DEEPER THAN A FINGERNAIL'S THICKNESS. Using a blade on a grinder to scribe the stone, as is common with other tools, will cause blowouts and possibly even cracking of the slab - especially on laminated stone. There is no need to to scribe: this tool has the power and the accuracy to get the job done, and done well, without it.Product may show minor usage (dust, etc.) due to factory testing when shipped.
Product may not precisely match images. We are constantly working on each of our products to find better designs, and we ship each new machine with the best design we have at that time. AS OF JULY 2023 THE SCALLOPED TEETH ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE.
*Not all stone types are able to be sheared cleanly, especially stones that have patches of crystal or are a solid single crystal structure. Please test on your specific stone or send a sample of the stone, already laminated or not as your job requires, so that we can test and tell you the results. While the PitBull BigDog Stone Chiseler should be able to shear the stone, the break on such stones may be chaotic. Marble and natural quartzite are the most risky: the chance of breaking slabs using ANY chisel, not just ours, is just too high.
